Take One Picture week - 22nd - 26th January 2024

2nd February 2024
We had our annual 'Take One Picture' week from 22nd to 26th January.  During this week, we have a whole-school focus on the same piece of artwork, and children have the opportunity to learn more about it, about the artist and to respond in different ways.

This year, we didn't choose a picture, but instead focussed on a sculpture by a French artist, Henri Gaudier-Brzeska.  The sculpture is called 'Red Stone Dancer' and whilst the original is in the Tate collection in London, a copy is on display in the house at Kettle's Yard.

This sculpture was made in 1913, when the artist was exploring new styles of work.  Sadly, he died two years later in World War 1, at the very young age of 23.

Children from EYFS to Year 6 spent time creatively responding to ideas raised by the sculpture and by what inspired the artist.  Here is a very small selection of examples of the experiences from the week and the wonderful artwork created.
