Imaginarium Day - 18.10.24

18th October 2024
We had a lovely day on Friday 18th October for our Imaginarium Day.  Hilary Cox-Condron, a local artist, spent the day with us to create a Kindness tree and a Kindness map of our local area.  We were inspired by the life of Leah Manning, who trained as a teacher in Cambridge in 1906.  Leah became the Headteacher of a Ragged School in the East Road area, where she was shocked at the living conditions and hunger being experienced by the children who attended her school.  Throughout her life, Leah acted to improve the lives of children, campaigning for free milk and for free school meals.  She later was involved in supporting Basque children evacuating to England during the Spanish Civil War.

We thought about how important kindness is in our school, in our community and in the wider world.  The children shared their ideas about what is important to them, and Hilary used their writing and drawings to make a beautiful tree, which is in our entrance hall for everyone to see.

Throughout the day, Hilary created the tree using the children's work.  We love our tree of kindness!  The roots symbolise the kindness in our school, and the leaves describe the things which matter to us in our world and the things we would want to change for the better.
We made a VERY long map of Arbury, showing our favourite places and drawing things we would like to have in our kind Arbury.  What would you like to be part of a kind Arbury?
