Happy Hanukkah

Happy Hanukkah!

In the UK and all around the world, Jewish children and grown ups celebrate the Jewish festival of lights called Hanukkah. The date of Hanukkah falls in November or December, it lasts for eight days and it might also be called Chanukah.
Hanukkah is a fun time for children, as they receive gifts.  Some families give each other a small present on each of the eight nights of Hanukkah.
Traditionally there is a special game played. It involves a spinning top called a dreidel, which is a cube- shaped dice with a Hebrew letter on each of the four sides.
Hanukkah is a great time for eating delicious food. Some dishes have special meaning such as latkes, which are a kind of potato fritter. Families mark Hanukkah by lighting a candlestick with eight candles called a Menorah.

The children in Classes 1 and 2 have been learning about Hanukkah. They played with a dreidel and drew beautiful  pictures of a Menorah.  Class 1 also learned a lovely little Hanukkah song (see below).
