English Touring Opera - performance of 'The Great Stink' - 2.5.24

2nd May 2024
On Thursday 2nd May, KS2 classes spent the afternoon watching a fantastic performance by English Touring Opera. The show was about events in London in 1858, where sewage polluting the River Thames was causing outbreaks of cholera as well as creating a 'great stink'.  The opera told us how the Bazalgette family were involved in the creation of an improved sewer system.

The music and the presentation of the show were wonderful - amazing singing from the 4 soloists, plus musical accompaniment on the piano, bassoon and cello.

We had been asked to teach the children two short song excerpts in advance, and also for the children to make a 'poo' puppet to join in with the singing as a 'poo chorus'!  The performers said that they had really enjoyed seeing the children taking part so enthusiastically!

A great afternoon of musical experience for us all!
